on.
In Cause of Lower Back Pain, I briefly skimmed over treatments
for each of the most common causes of back and leg pain.
Here we will first discuss the two main categories of back pain
remedies.
Natural Back Pain Relief
Otherwise known as "alternative
medicine for back pain," this category would include
acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathy, homeopathy, massage,
aromatherapy, and many others. There are many, many forms of
treatment for pain relief. This is merely a starting point and
not an exhaustive list. We will cover only the most commonly
encountered methods.
Traditional or Medical Management of Back Pain
The word
"traditional" is difficult. Many therapies found in natural back
pain relief are considered traditional by many practitioners and
patients alike. Let's just stick with the definition of
traditional as meaning treatments dispensed by a medical
physician, osteopath, orthopedist, neurologist or physiatrist.
Management of low back pain by these doctors would include oral
and injected medications, physical therapy and surgery.
